Doug & Joanne Browning have been making wines since 1996, starting with the classic Chardonnay and red Zinfandel grape. It was a very good year for both California viniferas. Plenty of sugar (28 Brix and 23 Brix for the Chardonnay) and adequate must acidity (0.75% acid for the Zin and 0.92% for the Chardonnay). We are still enjoying the Zin, although on an infrequent basis because of limited availability - we drank or gave the rest away before it reached its prime!

Since the initiation of the Waterside Wines label, we have experimented with kit wines (drinkable, but not exceptional), Pinot Noir, Viogner, Barbera, Syrah, Cabernet, Sauvingon Blanc, and port-style Zinfandel. Most recently, oaking techniques (cubes, chips) and malolactic cultures are being assessed for the perfect processing formula. Of course the winemaker has the final call!
